This event will be great for those teachers, assessors, trainers and managers involved in: correctional services; water industry; public safety; public sector training; local government training and translating and interpreting.
"Fireside chats” are planned informal events held over a meal and drinks. For this event, VISTA would like the opportunity for you meet Karen Taylor – CEO of GSA to find out about the Government and Community Safety Skills ISC priorities for 2012 and the challenges facing the Government Skills sector for 2012 and onwards. The informal atmosphere of a fireside chat allows an opportunity open conversation/ questions / feedback between participants and guest presenters about strategies or issues relating to the Service Industry sector. Areas of particular interest will be the key issues arising from the recently released e-scan, training package developments, and workforce development issues within the broad industry areas within the service skills scope.

3 Apr 2012Forestworks ISC Fireside Chat “Creating critical mass for training in the workplace
Forestworks ISC “Creating critical mass for training in the workplace”
Over the last three years we have been working with the Frame and Truss Manufactures Association (FTMA) and other industry parties. This is an industry sector that had very generic qualifications, so FTMA, ForestWorks and other parties went through a rigorous process to identify the industry need and produce a sweet of qualifications. It has now reached the stage of delivering the training, as the plants are relevantly small, and located a fair distance apart (to ensure a market for their product) providing a viable group number to be trained off the job does not happen. Also though a builder/carpenter may do framing this training is in the manufacture of roof trusses which is a different skill set. Finding a building Department in a TAFE/RTO interested in venturing into a workplace training setting in a slightly different vocational area did not happen (Again the student numbers are low). What is happening is some of our more nimble RTOs have embraced this challenge and are making it work. This is the fireside conversation in which VISTA members can participate.
